Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure Celebrates 100,000th Guest

CASTAWAY CAY, BAHAMAS, June 16, 2009 -- Standing along the white sand beaches and crystal clear waters of Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, eight year old Madelyn Robinson of Lee's Summit, Mo. was recognized as the 100,000th guest to visit the unique hands-on stingray experience, Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure. The event celebrated the popular shore excursion while also showcasing Disney's support of animal preservation through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund.

Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure engages participants in hands-on experiential learning about the biology and native environment of stingrays. Through group interactions led by marine specialists, guests have an opportunity to feed, touch and interact with rays native to The Bahamas.

The program also contributes to protecting animals in the wild, as a portion of the proceeds from each Castaway Ray's excursion is donated to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF).

Established in 1995, DWCF is a global awards program for the study and protection of the world's wildlife and ecosystems, as well as the promotion of community conservation efforts around the globe. To date, the program has helped over 750 projects and granted more than $12-million to conservation efforts, scientific research and habitat protection. More information about programs supported by DWCF can be found at www.disney.com/conservation.

Exclusive to Disney Cruise Line, Castaway Cay is a private island paradise offering unique opportunities for families to reconnect while enjoying the natural beauty of The Bahamas. Guided eco tours, abundant native plants and sightings of local animal species allow guests to appreciate the ecological diversity found on the island. A full-time marine biologist also resides on Castaway Cay to oversee the care and development of the resident stingray population, while also conducting vital research to preserve and develop underwater coral reef systems.
