New Attraction to Open at Tokyo Disney in 2011 and 2012

Oriental Land Company, the Japanese leisure and tourism group which owns the Tokyo Disney Resort, has announced plans to develop two new attractions in Tokyo Disneyland Park and Tokyo DisneySea Park.

Opening in 2011 in Fantasyland at Tokyo Disneyland Park will be an as-yet-unnamed new walkthrough attraction themed to the Disney classic film Cinderella.

At Tokyo DisneySea Park, meanwhile, the new attraction Toy Story Mania! will open in 2012 in the themed port of American Waterfront.

"The Disney classic film Cinderella has been well-loved around the world since its premiere in 1950," said OLC. "Now guests will be able to experience the world of Cinderella through dioramas and paintings inside Cinderella Castle."

Total capital investment for both projects will be approximately JPY13.5bn (US$141m).

The move comes after OLC's announcement in October 2008 that the company had shelved plans for a new Disney complex in the southern Japanese city of Fukuoka.

The company and Disney had spent more than a year studying an urban-style amusement facility for 2010, but decided that the expected investment return would not justify the project.
