Disney Serves Up $10K for Second Harvest Food Bank

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., June 30, 2009 – Nearly 100 Walt Disney World Public Affairs Cast Members recently donned VoluntEARS t-shirts for a visit to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, a non-profit organization that collects and distributes donated food to more than 500 non-profit agencies. During the team-building exercise, Cast Members were able to get a closer look at the needs of agencies in Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties. They also went to work in Second Harvest’s food sorting facility, where they packaged more than 1,000 lbs of food for those in need.

Walt Disney World Vice President Eugene Campbell topped off the visit by presenting the leaders of Second Harvest with a $10,000 check in honor of Disney VoluntEARS. Second Harvest of Central Florida Executive Director Dave Krepcho noted that the funds will go far; for every dollar donated to Second Harvest, the organization can distribute nine dollars worth of groceries. "With this $10,000 donation, we can distribute $90,000 worth of groceries," said Krepcho. "These funds make a big dent to meet the extra demand out in the community."
